Our team consists of 35 full-time, dedicated and success driven team members. We are constantly working toward creating the perfect team. Swimming Pool Services is a proud member of the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP). Education is important to us and our employees have the following certifications from APSP: Certified Pool Builder, Certified Service Professional , Certified Service Technician, Certified Maintenance Specialist, and Certified Hot Tub Technician. SPS’ team of trained, certified professionals has over 190 years of combined experience in the industry.
Meet the Team
David Thompson – CEO
Dave is the second generation owner of Swimming Pool Services. He has been working full-time at SPS since 1994 and has been CEO since 2003. He loves turning client’s dreams about their backyard into reality. David has a BS in Architectural Engineering and is also a Genesis Platinum Member. Since 1995 Swimming Pool Services has been honored by industry peers and NARI over 50 times for projects that David has led.
When not working on transforming backyards, David enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and three children. Favorite activities include traveling, camping, hunting and fishing.
Mike Groh – Operations Manager
Mike recently joined the company in January of 2018. He came to SPS after working in the retail industry for many years. Mike and his fiancee Sara are clients of Swimming Pool Services and had a pool built back in 2014. Mike’s goal is to make sure that each project exceeds our customer’s expectations and is done as quickly as possible so they can begin enjoying their pool, just as he does. Outside of work, Mike enjoys spending time with his fiancee Sara, racing cars and motorcycles, and working as a part time firefighter.
Allyn Brauer – New Pool & Renovation Sales
Allyn was born and raised on a family dairy farming operation and has always had an entrepreneurial spirit and great work ethic. But just 6 short years ago, he joined SPS after being in Corporate America. During his time with us, Allyn has enjoyed meeting new people and forming long-term relationships along with helping family’s dreams come true by building beautiful paradises in their backyards. Outside of work, Allyn enjoys spending time with family and friends, boating, skiing, or just chilling with a drink in the sun.
Cori Thiede – Designer
After graduating with a welding/metal fabrication degree, Cori found herself invested in the CAD design side of things. She spent 2 years in the tool and die industry, creating models and blueprints for stamping dies. She made the switch to designing pools at SPS in 2016. Her favorite part about being a designer is helping people create their dream backyards. Each project is different in it’s own special way! In her spare time, she loves going up North, snowboarding, and spending time with family and friends.
Neil Burns – Outdoor Rooms Manager
Neil has been creating outdoor living spaces for people for 30 years. He is married with 4 grown children and 3 grandsons all under the age of 4! Neil enjoys spending time with his family and friends, his dogs, and the change of the seasons. Go Pack Go!
Justin Lex – Service Manager
Justin graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Sociology with an emphasis in Criminal Justice from the University of Whitewater in 2009. After a few pit stops, Justin ended up at SPS in the spring of 2011. He started working in the field and eventually worked his way up to Service Manager for both our pool and spa customers as well as Christmas Decor. Justin enjoys the fast-paced, changing industry and new innovations that come out on a regular basis. Most importantly, he loves the clients we serve. The pure emoting and joy they have after a completed project drives him to want to better improve our services.
Outside of work, family comes first for Justin. He is married to his amazing wife, Jenny and the two welcomed daughter Ruby in April of 2017. Justin and Jenny also have a German Shepherd named Odie and cat named Maude. For fun, Justin enjoys being outdoors including biking, water skiing, wake boarding, downhill skiing, and hiking with Odie.
Katheren Reinke – Service Coordinator
Katheren has been teamed up with SPS since August of 2017. Previously, she studied Business Management at Waukesha County Technical College, and graduated with an Associate’s Degree. As the Service Coordinator, she takes pride in her diverse responsibilities that differ from day to day, and providing administrative support to Justin and the Service Technicians.
Katheren has been married for 11 blissful years, and her 16 year old son is a trumpet prodigy in his high school marching band. She relishes in many pastimes such as baking, kayaking, photography, crafting, aquatics, and recently started yoga. She finds much interest in exploring and expanding in new hobbies.
Katheren is passionate about her position with SPS and believes life is always “cool by the pool.”
Mike Panella – Retail Manager
Mike has been with SPS for 7 years. He loves helping people with every aspect of pool and spa ownership, and he always does it with a smile! He and his wife currently have 5 children, but will probably have more by the time you read this. Mike spends most of his free time with his family, where the primary activities are crying, yelling, and roughhousing. He loves to eat candy and play basketball. His greatest disappointment is his inability to grow a nice beard.
Drew Klink – Assistant Retail Manager
Drew has been with SPS for about a year now. Before joining us, Drew attended University of Wisconsin Whitewater for a year and half but joined the workforce because he was undecided on a major. He enjoys working with people everyday and making it easy for them to care for their pools and spas. Besides pools, Drew enjoys going out with friends, playing basketball at the gym and spending time with family.
Samantha McKenzie – HR/Office Manager
Samantha has been with SPS since 2013. She graduated from Winona State University with a Bachelors in Human Resource Management. She moved to the Milwaukee area 10 years ago from Minnesota and became a fast fan of the local sports teams. Samantha is married and enjoys spending time with her 9 nephews and nieces. She has been working in HR for 10 years and in Management for 13. What she loves most about her job at SPS is planning employee events and outings.
